The biggest event of the Chinese New Year is the the Chinese New Year Night Parade in Tsim Sha Tsui on January 23rd, 2012. We went last year and really enjoyed it!
This year we were thinking of buying tickets for the parade stands, but we’ll need to be quick! The tickets for the parade stands will go on sale on January 14 at 8am at the Hong Kong Tourism Board Visitor center and are likely to sell out on the same day.
Still, even without tickets you can enjoy the parade. Just make sure to get to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Salisbury Road, Mody Road or the New World Centre (all in Tsim Sha Tsui, just take the MTR) a few hours before 8pm and reserve your spot.
All the pictures above were taken last year, but I am sure this year will be even more exciting. There will be groups from eleven countries participating, with floats from Hong Kong Disneyland, Hong Kong Ocean Park, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Hong Kong Jockey Club, Notting Hill Carnival (UK), San Diego Chargers Cheerleaders (US) and Arezzo Flag Wavers (Italy), so it is going to be very interesting. Below is the map from last year:
