Short review: Daruma Ramen

+++ Update Summer 2016 – and another shop that has closed down and is long gone +++

After one of our night hikes Monica took me to one of her favourite Ramen places in Tin Hau / Tai Hang, Daruma. The shop is small, just 18 seats and most of the time you have to share with other people.

We ordered marinated garlic as a starter and as a main we each had a big bowl of spicy tonkotsu pork bone ramen, with a thick and flavourful broth. I’ve never had spicy ramen before and I really enjoyed it. The noodles were pretty good, broth rich and tasty, and each bowl is garnished with traditional ramen accessories including spring onions, seaweed, three slices of tasty fatty pork (you can order more if you like) and half a runny egg.

Will I go there again? YES. I loved the texture of the noodles, and how the soup doesn’t have any MSG. It’s very tasty and one of the better ramen soup bases I’ve tried.
