In previous years, the main fireworks took off from the IFC 2 building in Central. But last year saw a dispute between the main sponsors Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited and Henderson Land Development Company Limited, who withdrew their support and left the Government and Hong Kong Jockey Club to assist the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
However, the focal point for this years event is being moved to Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition in Wan Chai and it will feature fireworks launched from both sea and land in an eight-minute display, lasting twice as long as previous displays.
Best vantage points are Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront in Kowloon between the Avenue of Stars and Hong Kong Cultural Centre (where a live broadcast of the theme song can also be heard), the area around Central piers on Hong Kong Island and from harbour cruises. If you want to get to the Tsim Sha Tsui side, you should be aware that extensive road closures will take place from 6-30pm onwards.
