After posting about Cafe Corridor it’s time to post about another favourite of mine: 18 GRAMS. This tiny coffee shop has locations in Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok and Causeway Bay.
To date I’ve only been to the latter, the Causeway Bay location. It’s tucked away in Cannon Street, seconds away from the very busy Jaffe and Lockhart Roads.
18 GRAMS offers breakfasts and small snacks, besides a wide array of hot and cold coffee drinks. I’ve not tried any of their snacks yet, but I do like their Cappuccino and Flat White drinks.
I was wondering where the name comes from – a single espresso normally contains seven to eight grams of coffee, so it would mean a strong double shot espresso. However, I read somewhere that the owners call it 18 GRAMS because the number 18 in Cantonese sounds euphemistically as guaranteed fortune.
I’ve been lucky in so far that every time I’ve been to 18 GRAMS I managed to grab one of the small seats and tables – but during busy times you’ll be better off with a takeaway coffee fix!
- 18 GRAMS is on 15 Cannon Street in Causeway Bay
