Art exhibition: Jim Lambie at Pearl Lam Galleries

After strolling through Sheung Wan and visiting The Cat Street Gallery, we walked to Central and went to the Pedder Building, which houses a number of galleries including Pearl Lam Galleries.

The current exhibition is by Scottish artist and DJ, Jim Lambie, who has been nominated for a Turner Prize.

It is a bold exhibition with lots of bright colours – and a blue and white striped floor that matched well with my shoes! Even the floor is an installation, it is called ‘The Strokes’.

There were quite a few different colorful sculptural installations pieced together from everyday objects. For instance, the sculpture ‘I Remember (Square Dance)’ from 2009 combined vintage chairs sawed in half, painted in bright colours and stacked together with handbags covered in tiny mirrors.

Colors rip through in Plaza, 1999/2013, inspired by a woman Lambie saw on the bus with milk seeping through her shopping bag.

The show ‘Flowers of Romance’ is on until May 15, 2013. Pearl Lam Galleries are on the sixth floor of the Pedder Building in Pedder Street, Central Hong Kong. The galleries are closed on Sundays.
