I’ve been to many different Dim Sum places in Wan Chai, Central and Sheung Wan – and here is one that’s on my list of favourites, together with North Garden: Dim Sum Square. I’ve had read about it before on HungryHK and on Razlan.
Dim Sum Square is tiny, it is just one floor and has few tables – get ready to queue if you arrive during the busy lunch or dinner hour. We went during a late afternoon, so we got a seat immediately.
We snacked on some very fresh Har Gau (shrimp dumplings) which are always my favourite dumpling. This time they included succulent prawns and some bamboo shots, in a translucent wrapper.
Next we had pork dumplings with mushroom. I’ve had Siu Mai a few times before, but never with fresh mushrooms – those were the best Siu Mai I’ve ever had. I’ll be back for more, especially as I normally would not really order these dumplings – but Dim Sum Square convinced me!
Patrick loved the crispy BBQ pork bun, the char siu bao. I’m sure they were tasty too, I just don’t like the dough with the sugar coating. It’s not my favourite.
Finally we also tried some deep fried spring rolls. Some loved them and yes, they were great, but that’s not something I would normally order. The dish tends to be quite fatty and oily. Still, if you enjoy spring rools, then the Dim Sum Square might be for you.
However for me, I’ll be back for more Har Gao and Siu Mai!
