Exactly one year ago I was celebrating with family and friends at the Munich Oktoberfest – but this year I’ve got to give it a miss.
However, I don’t need to miss the Oktoberfest festivities completely, there are also a couple of events in Hong Kong this year.
For the next Wednesdays (until Oct 23), Happy Valley Racecourse is turning into a Happy Valley Oktoberfest Experience. Not only can you play beer-related games in the Beer Garden or participate in the Speed Drinking contest, but there are also German dishes (think roast pork knuckle) on offer.
The King Ludwig restaurants (in Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Stanley, TST and Yuen Long) features sausage eating and beer drinking contests. There will also be live music events at their selected branches as well. Just visit from today until October 14 and you can enjoy special German foods, beers and traditional music there.
The biggest Oktoberfest event in Hong Kong is always the Marco Polo German Bierfest. It always runs a little later in the year, at the end of October – I guess that’s to prevent the typical confusion about the Munich Oktoberfest taking place at the end of September! The hotel will host a big marquee, serve Löwenbräu beer and lots of traditional dishes from Oct 25 to Nov 16. The Oktoberfest will be daily from 6pm to 11pm (Fridays and Saturdays until 11.30pm) and entrance is 130 HKD during the week and 240 HKD on Friday and Saturday (this includes a glass of beer). Tickets are sold on HK Ticketing in advance or at the Marco Polo German Bierfest entrance on the event day.
