Review: The Salted Pig

I had heard many good things about The Salted Pig in L Place – so when I had went for a foot massage at ten foot tall, I decided to head down to the second floor and see if I could grab a table for a dinner with Patrick. I was lucky, the place was not too busy on a Tuesday evening and we were seated at a nice table in a quiet corner.

The menu features pork dishes (of course) but also other nice meat starters and mains. We opted for the pig cheek and the scotch egg as a starter.

Only one big scotch egg was served, but it was nice and hot – with nice tasting sausage meat and breadcrumbs. It came with bacon jam, which was so yummy that we finished the bowl and were tempted to ask for more.

The pig cheek was tasty too – it was lovely meat, nice and soft and seasoned well. We loved the meat but the sauce was a little too acidy for our taste, so we did not finish the sauce. But still, a good starter and a nice big portion to share.

For mains I opted for the roast chicken and Patrick had the rib – my dish was the better of the two this time. The roast chicken was moist and tender, it came with pumpkin mash and savoy cabbage.

I didn’t take a picture of the rib, but it was a huge piece with a large bone – the meat was so soft, we could lift it off the bone with a spoon. It was a huge chunk of meat, almost too much for the two of us. But we enjoyed it very much, together with mashed potato.

We were too full afterwards to order some desserts – maybe something to try next time?

The service was attentive without being overbearing, with the wait staff checking on us every now and then but leaving us to enjoy the tasty food.

Will I go there again? Yes, and Patrick has already been. He had been luck that his Christmas party took place at the Salted Pig so he could taste the famous pork belly, ribs and other specialities too!
