+++ Update March 2015: Unfortunately Tamper Coffee has gone out of business +++
After my great trip to Hanoi I’m back in Hong Kong … and I’m very much addicted to good coffee. I’ve got a few favourite spots on the Hong Kong Island side (Rabbithole in Wan Chai, 18 grams in CWB and Unar in Tin Hau) but so far I don’t really know where to get good coffee on the Kowloon side.
Luckily my friends knew where to go and took me to Tamper Coffee, which is a little off the beaten track – but the small detour is totally worth it as they are selling the best affogato coffee (50 HKD) in Hong Kong.
They don’t just make regular espresso with boring vanilla ice cream – no, they go for strong espresso with pistachio ice cream, which is my absolute favourite. It adds a sweet nutty flavour to the coffee, a little reminder of the nutty Vietnamese coffee I’ve got to love over the previous days in Hanoi…
Tamper Coffee is selling Espresso, Latte, Cappuccino, Long Black, Americano and Brewed coffee with Single Origin Coffees from Bolivia, Rwanda, Brazil, Ethiopia and Burundi. They are using Square Mile Coffee Roaster’s coffee which is a very famous coffee roaster from East London, and you can also get the coffee beans from Square Mile at Tamper Coffee, if you want to take them home with you.
Will I go there again? Yes, it is a nice small place (it only seats about 10 people at a time) that focuses on the essential: good, strong coffee. Of course, if you’d like to grab a bite, they offer some simple sandwiches and pastries too, but I’ve not tried them (yet).
