On February 19 the year of the horse will change and it will be the year of the goat, the year of the sheep or the year of the ram! The Chinese character can represent all three, but according to this article on CNN, Isaac Yue, who teaches Chinese mythology at the University of Hong Kong, says ‘if you look at the way the character yang is written, even in its ancient form, you can see that there is a pair of horns so it more closely resembles a goat than a sheep.’
The Wall Street Journal seems to agree in this article, where Hong Kong feng shui master Peter So Man-fung said that the English word “goat” best suits the meaning of “yang” in Chinese. In the article, So said that ‘Goats are able to survive in harsh conditions,’ so I am wondering what the next year will bring!
People born in the year of the goat tend to be polite, loving, kind-hearted, gentle and calm – and that’s linked to the character of the goat/sheep/ram.
