Pomme is a cafe and patisserie on Luard Road, which I always walk past. It usually is quiet, with only one or two tables occupied. The other day, I passed it again – and decided to give it a go.
It is a small space, but I managed to fit in Lina’s stroller (just about, luckily only one other table was occupied). The cafe serves sandwiches and cakes – from cupcakes over cheesecakes to tarts and cake pops.
There is a counter at the back where you can see all the cakes, pastries, cupcakes, muffins and other sweets of the day and make your choice. In the afternoon, they offer a tea/coffee set for 68HKD which includes one drink and one slice of cake.
I was not in the mood of too much sweetness or cream, so I opted for a slice of the lemon drizzle cake. It was a big slice (good value for money) and I liked the balance of sweet and sour. The cake was a little bit on the dry and crumbly side, so not sure if it was made freshly that day.
Patrick tried a blueberry cheese cake – which is a little on the small side. But it is rich, creamy and very fruity… so the small size was actually sufficient. Plus he liked it, so mission accomplished.
For drinks, we ordered one decaf coffee with soy milk for me. I liked it that they served the soy milk hot on the side – that’s how it should be but it is not often the case. Patrick had a hot chocolate, but unfortunately it was way too sweet and undrinkable.
So how would I rate this place? Would I eat there again? Maybe. I would give it another go and try another cake (maybe also one of the savoury items) as the lemon drizzle cake and the blueberry cheese cake did not convince me. But on the plus side, it was good value for money, given that we had cakes and drinks for 136HKD for the two of us. That’s a good deal.
