Chinese New Year 2016: Year of the Fire Monkey

A few more days and it will be a new year – the wood goat, ram or sheep will have been gone.

The Chinese New Year begins on Monday February 8 and lasts until January 27 in 2017. If you don’t know yet which animal will be the focus of next year, you just have to stroll around Hong Kong and check out the decorations…

… almost every shop will have a monkey in its window display or somewhere in the shop. It is the year of the Monkey, the ninth animal in the cycle of animal zodiacs.

It is said that people born in the year of the monkey are quick-witted, charming, lucky, adaptable, bright, versatile, lively and smart. How lucky that I know three monkeys in our close family!

But then monkeys are also known to love jokes and pranks. It is said that they have an impulsive nature and short attention span – and given that the coming year will be the year of the fire monkey, the combination of a monkey’s temper with fire sounds dangerous!

Fire Monkeys are said to be even more intense and passionate than the average Monkey is – I’m curious to find out if that’s true, given that several of my friends are pregnant this year …
