I’m normally not the one who uncovers new bars or restaurants – it takes me months to finally visit them. But there are exceptions to this rule. One of them is Ping Pong 129 Gintonería on Second Street in Sai Ying Pun.
I was lucky to visit it two weeks ago during its soft opening phase. You have to take the cab to Second Street and look for house number 129, which hides behind a red door. That’s all from the outside.
From the inside the space is huge – it’s a big room with high ceilings (looks like one floor has been knocked out) and it was a Ping Pong centre before. Hence the name.
It’s a very chic place – and what I really enjoy is the focus on Gin and Tonic (which just happens to be my favourite drink). Lots of different gins to try, lots of different mixes. All of them served in beautiful glasses with hand-chiselled ice cubes.
It’s a fantastic place and I’m kind of reluctant to share this secret – but I am hoping that the owner will be successful and keep this place open for a long time!
Looks good
