Same Saturday, but another hike – after my Hong Kong Island hike I decided to travel to Sunny Bay and join the Hong Kong Hiking MeetUp group there. Together, we’d explore an off-the-beaten path to Disney. Just in time to watch the fireworks.
A group of eager hikers met at the station and we all followed Tony, who had organised the hike.
First, we left the station grounds, crossed the street and then followed a water catchment area path – first it was flat, and then it went uphill until the steps stopped in the middle of nowhere. Literally in the middle of nowhere as the path was so overgrown.
From there on it was just uphill on a path that was completely overgrown. The only way we could find it was by following some ribbons that were left as markings on trees and shrubs.
But we were rewarded with amazing views, almost 360 degrees around us. Here, this is the artificial Disney plateau…
… Tsuen Wan …
… and a nice sunset …
But we were not at the top yet – there were still a few hills to climb!
Finally, we’ve made it (a few of us did, not everyone joined the last climb):
A nice view of Tsing Yi bridge…
.. and the harbour at dusk and then at nighttime.
We settled on the hill closest to Disney and waited until 9pm as this was the schedule for the fireworks last Saturday – and we were rewarded by a prime view of the fireworks! It was a nice display, great to watch from our perspective.
After the fireworks we walked downhill to Disney to catch a train back to Sunny Bay -all the kids and families must have been a little surprised to see a bunch of sweaty hikers joining them for their ride!
