Wondering where to go for a Sunday breakfast? Check out the new ‘The Cupping Room’ in Wan Chai, which opened recently on 32 Swatow Street (that’s opposite the Southern Playground in one of the side streets between the Wan Chai Markets and The Pawn).
Now we finally have an alternative to the amazing, but often too busy Rabbithole and the over-priced and over-hyped Coffee Academics that serves perfect flat whites and cappuccinos.
We’ve been twice in two weeks, and both times the service was very efficient – the waiters are knowledgeable, the coffee is piping hot and the second time we went, we tried the “breakfast of champions”. Initially I thought it should have said, breakfast for champions, but I guess the reference is made because the second placed world champion barista is Mr. Chiu Ka Po from The Cupping Room! (Not just second place in Hong Kong or China, no – worldwide!!!).
Patrick always goes for the full brekkie, which is nice – but my option of chilli scrambled eggs, with salad and an amazing toasted bread was much better (at least in my point of view). I believe the breakfast options are available all day – and for lunch you can also have pasta.
They also serve a few pastries, but I don’t know if they change regularly – I’ve seen chocolate brownies and muffins, but so far have not tried them.
Breakfast for two is quite affordable (at least for the quality of the food), we paid 300 HKD for three coffees and two main dishes (big portions, amazing bread, freshly prepared – waiters are happy to take care of your special requests) and if you sit upstairs it might be quieter, so you could stay there longer without other people already waiting for a seat.
Would I go there again? Yes, of course, I’ve already been back!
